How Hourly Pay With a Bonus Is Calculated
Worked example: $25/hour x 40 hours/week x 52 weeks/year = $52,000 base annual gross. $52,000 + $5,000 bonus = $57,000 total annual gross compensation, or $4,750.00/month on average.
Base annual gross salary is shown separately from the annual bonus so you can see exactly how much of your total compensation comes from your hourly schedule versus the fixed bonus amount.
Working fewer than 52 weeks per year lowers your base annual gross salary, since it's derived from hourly rate, hours per week, and weeks per year — the bonus amount itself stays fixed regardless of weeks worked.
Base annual gross pay is calculated the same way as on the Hourly to Yearly Salary Calculator; this page adds
a fixed annual bonus on top of that figure.
This is different from the Hourly to Salary with Overtime Calculator, which adds
compensation based on extra hours and a multiplier — this calculator instead adds a
single fixed annual bonus amount.
Is the bonus added before or after calculating annual base pay?
After. Base annual gross pay is calculated first from your hourly rate, hours per week, and weeks per year, and the fixed annual bonus is then added on top to get total annual gross compensation.
How does a bonus affect annual gross compensation?
The bonus adds its full dollar amount directly to your base annual gross salary — a $5,000 bonus increases total annual gross compensation by exactly $5,000.
How do I convert total annual compensation to a monthly average?
Divide total annual gross compensation by 12. At $57,000/year, that's $57,000 / 12 = $4,750.00 per month on average.
What if I work fewer than 52 weeks per year?
Adjust the weeks per year field — it lowers your base annual gross salary proportionally, while the fixed bonus amount stays the same.
What formula does this calculator use?
Total annual compensation = base annual salary + annual bonus
Are these results gross or net values?
Primary conversion outputs are gross unless the mode explicitly includes tax or deduction assumptions for estimated net values.
